Report discovers in 2026 that PCs with Microsoft products spy, but only those of the judiciary.
With the usual air of being champions of justice and truth, just a few days before the vote on the separation of the careers of magistrates (but it's just a coincidence that the problem is only coming out now), it seems that in 2019 software was installed on the 40,000 PCs of the judiciary, but it only became known in 2024, yet the government allegedly hushed everything up.
Let it be clear, I am not taking anyone's side, but if there were at least a minimum of IT knowledge in this country, it wouldn't be a bad thing. When you have large quantities of PCs, the system administrator can access the PCs remotely to do upgrades, file backups, security patches, or other things, but this doesn't happen only for magistrates but in all public and private administrations.
Furthermore, in some companies where I have worked, they also used to save the documents folder from the PC (in my opinion an abuse, but you know, we are just employees), unfortunately the employer has been given a superpower that we all have to endure when we are part of a company or administration. This is also done to isolate portions of the network, for example if the PC is infected, to prevent a virus from spreading.
No one, however, points the finger at an even more serious issue: why are proprietary software like Windows used in a public administration, when by law there is an obligation to adopt open source software like Linux, which is now very widespread and mature, also to prevent some foreign state from remotely controlling an important institution like the Justice system?
Why isn't there a parliamentary question or an investigation by judges into the use of proprietary software?
Why doesn't the Court of Auditors intervene to order all public administrations to use free software instead of proprietary software?
Why don't intelligence agencies intervene to replace proprietary devices with other, safer and more controllable software?
Moreover, why, given that Windows 11 is practically itself a mega spy software that takes screenshots of users' screens, has it not yet been banned throughout Italy?
But you know, the purpose of this report is to shift attention towards the vote, not to address the problem of control by foreign or state entities.
And what do you think?
