Meta trains AI with your data.

Here we go again, Meta (aka Zuckemberg) is once again exploiting the immense amount of data provided by users who, in order not to give up a service (which they could have for FREE anyway), allow unscrupulous companies to take possession of the data of users who use Meta products but also of those who do not use them.

Yes, because for those who don't know, even those who don't use Meta products can be the target of tracking, all it takes is a photo with the name tag and it's done.

On the website of the privacy guarantor, instead of condemning the company and providing effective remedies, they limit themselves to communicating the fact that from the end of May 2025, meta will use user data to train its artificial intelligence and that if a citizen wants, he can oppose it.

I believe that for a body that should protect privacy, it is not enough to make a communication but concrete actions to defend citizens by condemning the actions and asking for explanations, perhaps forcing companies to update the privacy rules by emphasizing this aspect more and not with a language that is most of the time purposely intricate so as not to make people understand what they are giving away of their own life and of their own and others' rights.

Of course, protecting the average idiot is not like protecting the rights to football matches for which we have even invented a procedure that goes through the courts and forces us to block sites. It's a shame that to do this, we also block legitimate services, not caring about the consequences.

But you know, we are in Italy!!!!!

What can we do?

First of all, as suggested in the article, we can (even if this does not guarantee anything in my opinion) follow the suggestion on opposition to the processing both if we are users of the services, and for those people who are only by chance and incidentally involved (for example if we are tagged by someone who publishes a photo where we are also present)

The most banal and obvious solution but with a great impact is to exit from everything, Facebook, Whatsapp, Google services, Microsoft and not use these platforms, personally I have been exited from these platforms for years and I can do the same things with alternative services that do not track me and do not use my data.

In the first solution it is necessary to make a premise , to make an opposition it is indicated to go to the meta site to give your data therefore: name, surname, email and reason for the opposition and subsequently you will receive a confirmation email, however I do not believe that it is correct that to make an opposition you have to register on a meta server, the most correct thing and that has legal value would be to send an email or certified email which is very different from trusting Meta which makes your data its core business...

For those interested in learning about free alternatives to Meta services, you can try Facebook-like services that are much more respectful of privacy and data, such as:

sfero.me

The only one that I feel like fully recommending because in addition to not selling your data it allows people to freely express their opinions on any kind of topic without being banned, there are no limitations as imposed by other platforms that call themselves free but if you just touch on certain topics considered sacred (I will not make a list) you are reprimanded and subsequently excluded from the instance.
